Moonshadow MaineS

An American breed known for their friendly personality, the Maine Coon is one of the most popular cat breeds for good reason. I fancied myself a dog person until I brought home my first Maine Coon. The laid-back personality, large size, and affectionate nature are unmatched.

Cage-free Cattery

Our cattery is truly cage-free. We never cage our cats because they are a part of our family, and we believe this helps them develop into well-adjusted, adaptable, easy-going companions and show cats. When ready for adventure, even our newborns can roam the house and explore every room. Our home is filled with pet-friendly entertainment for the moms and kittens. Our kings live in an attached in-law suite to avoid an accidental “oops mating.” We have a home office, staff, kids large and small, Great Danes, and the occasional turkey that wanders in for a visit from the yard.

Our cats are exceptionally well-rounded and comfortable with people and other animals. This enables them to settle into a new home environment quickly. We take pride in their temperament above all.

Health

All breeding-aged cats are thoroughly health tested. We do not rely merely on DNA. DNA testing provides only part of the picture for a healthy, purebred cat. Beyond testing for genetic markers predisposing cats to specific ailments, we go the extra mile to ensure our Maine Coons are in the best possible health before breeding. We complete OFA hip testing and echocardiograms at Michigan State University on all adult cats. Cats are also current on all vaccinations and remain indoors unless on an excursion to a cat show.

We understand screening is the foundation of a healthy breeding program.

A CFA pedigree and registration are included with kittens. They will have finalized their 8-week- and 12-week immunizations and will be microchipped, and spayed or neutered.  We also provide updated photos or video of your kitten, a crate for transport, toys, food samples, and a litter blanket.

Kittens are able to move to their new homes at 13 weeks old. As a new owner, you must arrange for their final kitten shot (rabies) at 16 weeks.
