At Moonshadows, our free-ranging chicken flock includes dozens of breeds that lay a rainbow of beautiful, nutritious eggs. Our flock includes pure-bred day-old chicks we've purchased and raised by hand, those our hens have hatched on the farm, and birds we've rescued that needed a forever home. Our ladies and roos have year-round access to our entire property during the day to explore and feast on grass, plants, and insects. And they are securely cooped at night to protect them from predators. Their feed does not contain pesticides, and they are raised without hormones or antibiotics. Our chickens are family pets. They are accustomed to being carried and petted and enjoy socializing with all the furry and feathered friends on the farm. While we occasionally have chickens for sale, they are not sold as meat birds, and we never slaughter them. They can live here long after their egg-laying days have passed.
